About Our School
Welcome to Olson’s Martial Arts Academy, the premier academy in Johnson City, TN for martial arts training and professional service. Our enthusiastic and experienced instructors are ready to help you understand the best program for you and your family to get started on an exciting journey in Martial Arts. We teach Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We have a spacious 12,000 square foot facility with state of the art flooring for safe training and a complete viewing area of all classrooms.
We have two Master Martial Arts Instructors on site who teach regularly each day, not something many students in martial arts get to experience! Our staff of instructors go through detailed and thorough training and are friendly and helpful to all.
Olson’s Martial Arts is a family owned and operated business that has been serving the local area for over 20 years. Amanda Olson started the Academy in 1997 with her family after teaching and training in Florida for the previous 20 years. Her children, Keith Olson and Katie McKinney now each work full-time at the academy and continue to bring the same excellent quality service and instruction to the students and their families.
Master Amanda Olson developed the Nationally recognized Leadership Program for the American Martial Arts Institute that is taught nationwide. She is an 8th degree black belt and Master Instructor. Olson’s Martial Arts Academy impacts the community by training students to lead by example and to look for ways to improve the lives and help others where they live. Meet Our Instructors
Master Instructor, Amanda Olson
Master Instructor, Amanda Olson is recognized across the country as a leader in teaching instructors how to teach. She has led teaching seminars and communication seminars for entrepreneurs, teachers, and other professionals as well as written training and curriculum manuals for both.
She is a founding member of the American Martial Arts Institute and works daily in her Academy, Olson’s Martial Arts, with her two children and 1,000’s of students.
Her 30 plus years of teaching and working with families gives her a very unique perspective and approach to helping children and teens navigate into adulthood as successful, fulfilled and happy citizens who are now starting families of their own.
Her goal is to partner with families by being part of the “village” to help in raising and developing the leaders of the future. She is a highly experienced and successful, coach, martial artist, and teacher. Seeing children grow and succeed to live their dreams is one of her greatest joys.
Master Instructor, Keith Olson
Master Instructor, Keith Olson is a 6th degree black belt and Master Instructor in Taekwondo. He started training when he was 4 years old and has never looked back. He also began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA when he was 18 years old. He has earned the rank of brown belt and has been training since 2008. He competed in Amateur MMA for 8 years and turned professional in 2018. His amateur record is 7-1 and his professional record is 3-2. Keith has a passion for martial arts and for helping people better themselves through martial arts. He also holds a B.S. Degree in Exercise Science from ETSU. His logical and challenging teaching style will help you reach the short and long term goals you have in martial arts be it self-defense, better fitness or knowledge if a wide range of martial arts skills.
Katie McKinney
Katie McKinney earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English in 2015. She trained in Taekwondo for 14 years going through the preschool program and earning her 3rd degree black belt and certified instructor status. She now works at Olson's Martial Arts Academy as the Office Manager and Program Director. Her main goal is to make sure the students and their families have a smooth and happy journey to reach their black belt goals. She is always ready to help you with any questions you may have either for yourself, your child or another family member.

Our 5 year old son has been enrolled at Olson’s for 8 months and I cannot express enough how impressed and grateful we are for the entire Olson family and their amazing staff. It is truly a state of the art academy that is not just about the physical training of taikwondo....oh, they are soo much more than that! They come alongside families to encourage and support us while pouring into our children and preparing them to be good stewards of this world. My 5 year old is learning about bullying, diversity, respect, perservence, courtesy, integrity, humbleness, focus, concentration, manners, patience, social skills, self control, and the list goes on and on....all while getting amazing physical training. He absolutely loves it! He loves ALL of his instructors! I love that he loves it!! He excitedly goes to class about 3 times per week, attends seminars, seasonal parties, community events, and one of my favorites (his, too) is the good grades party ...if he has good grades and attitude at school/home and a parent and teacher signs off then he gets celebrated for that at a party...what amazing encentive is that! Olson’s has also been great for us because we do not have a lot of family in this area and having their encouragement and support has been tremendous for us and our son, it gives us a great sense of belonging to the community they have built. We see this not just as another extra curricular activity but as an actual investment into his future, just as with any other formal education/training, that will make him a better student, leader, helper, friend, and citizen. We are honored to be a part of the Olson community, we are grateful for how they are making the world a more beautiful and kind place one child/parent/adult at a time.
