PARENTS IN Johnson City ARE ASTONISHED BY THE POSITIVE IMPACT MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES ARE HAVING ON THEIR CHILD!
You might naturally associate martial arts with hollywood stunts and kicks and punches, but the self-defense aspect of martial arts is just part of it. Children that learn martial arts develop the confidence to know that if they are ever bullied, they have the skills they need to defend themselves. However, the real skill we teach is diffusing situations with words before they ever escalate to a physical level.
Karate Kubs is our Pre-School program for ages 4-6. We use Taekwondo to teach gross motor skills as well as disciplines such as listening, showing respect, taking turns and self-control.
These classes are taught by instructors who love children and are patient with youngsters. They understand that these little guys are just learning how do basic things such as jumping jacks and paying attention to the instructors. The mental goal is to help prepare them for a successful transition into pre-school or into kindergarten. The physical goal is to prepare them to enter the Jr. Taekwondo program with confidence and the skills they will need to learn the more challenging curriculum.
We implement many of the Safety Net Kids (safetynetkids.com) lessons such as stranger confrontation and dealing with bullies. Some of our most talented and respectful teen students started in this very class.
Our mission, through Taekwondo and martial arts, is to instill positive values and character traits into our students.
We focus primarily on character building, self-defense, and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. This develops a confidence and respect that we hope will stay with children for the rest of their lives.
We have a well-trained and talented staff that love to work with children. Juniors can expect to learn kicks, punches, self-defense, forms, board breaking, sparring, and conditioning in classes. We believe in positive reinforcement when teaching so you can expect your child to learn in a very positive atmosphere.
Using Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under the Pedro Sauer Association, our Junior (8 to 12 years) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is a safe self-defense system that is fun to learn and empowers children to neutralize unwanted confrontation.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is foremost a defensive art and teaches us to only use self-defense when needed. Children in our program will learn a variety of standing self-defenses (against grabs, pushes, punches etc.), and how to safely escape, neutralize, and control a bully on the ground.
From their first day, we focus on teaching children how to calmly and confidently diffuse a situation without having to use Jiu Jitsu for defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is physically and mentally challenging and will be an exciting journey for anyone. (www.pedrosauer.com).
Our goal at Olson's Martial Arts is to not only create excellent martial artists, but develop great leaders as well.
Our leadership program, developed by Master Amanda Olson, is nationally recognized by MA Success magazine. Master Olson has created thousands of junior leaders and hundreds of skilled adult instructors across the country with her program. The program works on building confidence, public speaking, people skills, class management skills, not to mention detailed knowledge of Taekwondo.
People who have been mentored in this program will be prepared to not only lead in a martial arts school, but to be a confident leader wherever they go in life. This is truly a fun way to grow as a martial artist and grow as a person.
